Junk removal · 4 min read · October 6, 2026

The junk is gone. Your payment should not be: getting paid before the truck leaves

Disposal fees and payroll cannot wait for a forgotten invoice. Set payment expectations early and make settling up simple at the end of the cleanout.

Your crew has done the hard part. The basement is empty, the driveway is swept and the customer is delighted. Then someone says, 'Just email me the bill.' A week later, you are chasing payment for a load you already paid to dispose of.

Agree on payment before the first lift

Put your payment terms in the proposal, including when the balance is due. For a residential pickup, you might request payment at completion. Property managers may require approved purchase orders and agreed billing terms. Confirm who can approve the work and who actually pays before you reserve the crew.

Use deposits thoughtfully on larger cleanouts

An estate cleanout or multi-day property clearance ties up more than truck space. If you require a deposit, show the amount, due date and cancellation terms before the customer accepts. Check applicable local rules, and make it clear that the deposit comes off the final balance rather than being an extra charge.

Close out the job while the customer is there

  • Walk through the cleared area and confirm the agreed items have been removed.
  • Record any approved additions before presenting the final invoice.
  • Send the payment link and allow the customer to pay privately on their own phone.
  • Check the payment status rather than relying on a screenshot or a promise.

Do not wait until you are at the disposal facility to discover the invoice went to the wrong phone number. Confirm contact details before the job starts.

Some customers will still need a reminder. MonkeyLio keeps open invoices together so you can see what needs attention and resend a link. The goal is not an awkward conversation at the curb. It is a payment process the customer understood from the start.
